How to Dry Wet Office Carpets

Retail buildings and offices experience moderate to high daily foot traffic. It means that once your carpets get damp or wet, drying them out as soon as possible should be your top priority. Keeping your carpets dry and clean all the time can help prevent more serious problems later on.

Wet Carpets Can Make Things Inconvenient for Building Occupants

The moment you notice some water overflowing from your carpets with every step you take, you cannot help but ask a flood of questions. How long has the carpet been this wet? Where did the water come from? How do you dry it out completely?

It is normal to feel frustrated and even a bit frantic with the mere sight of water in your carpets. But you don’t need to panic. The first thing you should do is analyze the water’s color and check if it has an unwanted odor. Depending on the source of the water, it is either clear or clean, black, or gray.

Just be careful if the water is gray because it is a sign of contamination. Another bad news is if it is black water. Black water is highly toxic and may lead to infections or serious illnesses it often indicates a sewage issue.

Clean water, on the other hand, is considered safe. This is only the type of water damage that you can deal with on your own. Clean water usually comes from a sanitary source, like an overflowing sink or broken pipe. It is also possible that rainwater coming from open windows has saturated your carpets.

Whatever it is, you can follow a streamlined process to remove clean water from the carpets.

What is the Best Process to Dry Your Carpets?

If there are any electrical outlets, don’t forget to turn off the electricity first in the area before you investigate further. After you turned off the power, you can then try to determine where the water comes from. Get the help of professionals who can repair a leaking pipe right away if you discover one.

Move furniture, desks, and other fixtures before dealing with water damage. Make sure you also divert foot traffic away from the area in question and follow the steps below.

  1. Use a wet-dry or shop vacuum to eliminate water from the carpet. Just make sure you empty the vacuum tank as often as needed.
  2. Once you have finished removing the water, you can use some microfiber towels to soak up any excess moisture or residual water. You can spread the towels all over the carpet then pat down the surface until they absorb all moisture. Make sure you use fresh towels for every area until they no longer collect any moisture.
  3. Put some fans around the carpet and allow the airflow to dry them out. You can also turn on the ceiling fans and open the windows and doors to further increase the amount of air that moves through the area.
  4. After you have dried out the carpets, you also need to inspect the subfloor to ensure that the padding below is not wet.

Courtesy Building Services Inc will take the burdens off your shoulders and ensure that your carpets are in pristine condition.
