Dusting and Its Importance in Offices

Dust is a very tiny particle made up of sand, hair, dead skin cells, fabric fibers, soil, and many other particles. This can also contain some toxic compounds like flame retardants, heavy metals, and pesticides. Once these small substances become airborne, dust can consolidate, travel, and settle on different surfaces.

Types of Dust

In case you don’t know it, there are actually three main types of dust and these are the following:

  1. Nuisance Dust

Nuisance dust includes calcium, iron, and carbon with little effects on the lungs. This category also includes biological dust from sugar, flour, grain and wood and can impact asthma and allergies.

  1. Proliferative Dust

Proliferative dust is caused by asbestos dust and silica dust. This dust may result to lung disease.

  1. Toxic Dust

Toxic dust includes zinc and lead. Once lead dust gets eaten or ingested, this can affect the digestive system.

Why Dusting is a Big Must

The process of removing dust from surfaces is called dusting and this is a big must in office or business settings. Dusting helps to create a tidy workplace environment that can benefit any business.

A dust-free environment will not only improve productivity as this will also create a standard for all the occupants of the building that the entire facility is properly taken care of and clean all the time.

Every time potential customers, vendors, and employees step inside a well-kept facility, this will demonstrate that cleanliness is essential to the business as a whole.

Dusting is also crucial for health purposes. When dust accumulates, it can irritate the eyes, skin, and lungs. This can even cause or worsen existing allergies that can result to the spread of infections. Every time an employee doesn’t report to work because of illness, this can make the business suffer from a lot of money and time lost because of lost productivity.

It is a must to maintain and create a healthy and clean working environment for the staff members and the guests who visit your workspace. If the employees are all healthy, this will allow for a more efficient and productive working environment, not to mention that it will also improve employee morale.

While dust might not be noticeable at times in neglected trash, restrooms, and soiled floors, it is extremely important to get rid of every speck for the facility’s overall health.

How Often Do You Need to Dust Your Office?

The dusting of many areas in your office or commercial facility must be typically done every week. Low and high dusting must also be completed every month at minimum. The frequencies may differ from one facility to another depending on different factors like the in and out traffic of the facility, the state o the air conditioning system, the outdoor landscape, and the weather in the area.

If you need some help with dusting and cleaning your commercial or office facility, it is best to leave it to the hands of the experts in commercial cleaning at Courtesy Building Services Inc.
